Polaroid Type 608 (Polavision) Cassette to Digital Conversion

Have you discovered an old Polaroid Type 608 Polavision cassette and thought it was impossible to view again? At Mr Scan, we specialise in converting these rare and unusual film formats into modern digital files, preserving your memories before they deteriorate further.

Introduced in the late 1970s, the Polaroid Polavision Type 608 cartridge was an innovative instant home movie system that recorded approximately 2 minutes and 35 seconds of colour film inside a sealed cartridge. Unlike standard Super 8 film, Polavision cartridges require specialist handling and cannot simply be projected or copied using conventional equipment.

Our Specialist Conversion Process

Each Polavision cartridge is carefully opened by hand to access the film inside. The film is then:

  • Carefully removed from the original cartridge.
  • Professionally cleaned to remove decades of processing residue and contamination.
  • Mounted onto specialist reels ready for scanning.
  • Digitally frame scanned using professional equipment.
  • Colour corrected and enhanced where possible to produce the best achievable results.
  • Supplied as a high-quality MP4 video for easy viewing on computers, TVs and mobile devices.

Due to the unique design of the Polavision system, the original cartridge cannot normally be reassembled after conversion, so the film will be returned safely wound onto a reel for long-term preservation.

What Quality Can I Expect?

Polavision was never known for producing images as sharp or vibrant as traditional Super 8 film. The original format has lower contrast, muted colours and visible grain by design, and decades of ageing can further affect image quality.

However, our professional cleaning, scanning and digital restoration techniques help recover as much detail and colour as possible, often producing results far superior to viewing the original cartridge.
