(Glass-mounted and larger slides are priced differently – see details below.)

High-Quality Slide Digitisation Using Professional Equipment

Our studio uses dedicated professional slide scanners, not the basic home scanners many competitors rely on. This advanced technology gives you sharper detail, better colour accuracy and cleaner results across your entire order.

If you’re looking for 35mm slide scanning, old slide conversion, or a trusted UK slide scanning service, you’re in the right place.

Hand-Adjusted for the Best Possible Results

Every slide is scanned in High Definition, and for bulk-scanned batches our system applies consistent professional settings to ensure great overall results. After scanning, each image is individually checked and hand-adjusted in Photoshop by our skilled technicians, fine-tuning colour, exposure, contrast and clarity so you receive the highest-quality digital images from your original films.

Our Slide Scanning Process

inhand

1. Each slide is inspected for damage and repaired where necessary **

35mm Slide scanning service

2. Surface dust is removed using industrial standard air compressor

3. Slides are loaded into our dedicated slide scanners to be scanned
4. Using our highly modified bespoke software to remove any additional dust*
5. Once scanned images are then manually checked and adjusted for contrast and colour. Post scanning adjustments made using Adobe Photoshop and our Loupedesk studio (Left). This is done to the best ability that the software allows using the original material provided.
6. During our manual inspection a basic level of image editing is used to remove any foreign objects such as dust or hair*

Glass Mounted/ Metal based Slides

These are bespoke custom made glass mounted film similar size to standard slides but much wider. They consist of two pieces of glass with the film between them and the edges taped with masking or similar tape. These are not classified as standard mounted slides and are custom made and not supplied by a standard slide manufacture, they do not fit in our scanning rig. However we can scan them using our high resolution flatbed scanner, this take much longer and they are charged at a different rate.

Individual Custom Slide Scanning

This is a custom service where each slide is individually scanned on our system with customised colour, contrast, gamma etc adjustments made during the process. The slide is scanned up to 16 times to get the best result and can take up to 40 minutes to complete each scan. Once scanned the image is manually restored using Adobe Photoshop and our Loupedesk studio (Left) – This service will also give you an exact order of your slides.

Important Information for Sending and Scanning Your Slides

Packaging Your Films

Please ensure you use strong protective packaging when sending your films. We will reuse your original packaging to return your order—this keeps your costs down and is more environmentally friendly.
These are your treasured films, so please use the best protective materials possible.

Please do NOT use tissue paper, as it sheds debris onto the film.

About Our Slide Scanning Service

We know there’s a lot to take in, but slide scanning has many options, film types and variables—so this guide explains everything clearly.

What We Can Scan

  • 35mm mounted slides (Negative, Positive, and Monochrome)

  • Slides in card, plastic or metal mounts

  • 127, 126 and 110 format slides (slight corner cropping may occur due to scanner design)

How We Scan Your Slides

Bulk Scanning

We scan your slides in bulk batches of up to 100 at a time, and use multiple scanners on bigger projects to keep the quality high while keeping your costs down.

Our standard automated settings include:

  • Dust removal

  • Cropping

  • Colour correction

  • Contrast adjustment

  • Edge enhancement

  • Sharpness optimisation

This gives the best overall result across the full set of slides. If you wish for each slide to have individual settings we advise using our “Individual Scanning Service”

Cropping

Our scanners automatically detect the best crop for each slide.
If a mount is misaligned, the image may be cropped more than usual.

Where needed, our technicians manually crop to remove the slide frame and achieve the best image.

If you want full-frame scans (including the black border), you must request this BEFORE scanning.
Please note:

  • Full-frame scans have reduced colour/brightness auto-adjustments due to the black borders.

  • You can then crop and adjust your images to taste.

Unmounted or Damaged Slides

We offer a re-mounting service for slides that have come loose or have mounts that are too damaged to scan.

This covers:

  • Temporary re-mounting for scanning

  • Removing slides from mounts afterwards

  • Minor mount repairs (e.g., tape or staples)

Special Requirements

If your slides may need special settings (e.g., artwork, unusual film types), we strongly recommend sending a few for a free sample scan first.

Options such as RAW files or uncorrected images can be provided if agreed prior to the order.

All special requirements must be included in written form inside your package.
Instructions given only by phone/email cannot be guaranteed.

Glass-Mounted Slides

For the best quality, slides should be scanned without the glass as:

  • Dust becomes trapped between the glass

  • Focus sharpness is reduced

If you prefer glass-free scanning, please remove the glass before sending your slides.
We cannot remove or replace glass mounts.

Cracked glass must also be removed before posting.

Image Quality – What to Expect

Your films may be several decades old and can naturally suffer from:

  • Fading

  • Dust

  • Scratches

  • Mould

We will always provide the best digital image possible from the material supplied, but they cannot be restored to modern, day-one camera quality.

Image Order, Numbering & Grouping

Due to the nature of bulk scanning:

  • Exact order cannot be guaranteed

  • Different slide types may need different scanners

  • Some slides may require re-scanning

  • Damaged mounts may need repairs

For this reason, the best time to organise your images is after scanning, by renaming them digitally.

If you require your slides scanned in a precise order, please choose our individual scanning service instead.

Numbering is automatically assigned by the scanners.
We recommend renaming files yourself once you receive them.

Returning Your Originals

Because we use a bulk process, we cannot guarantee your slides will return in the same sequence as received.

Slides originally stored in plastic sleeve albums may not fit back in due to age-related shrinkage. In these cases, we return them safely banded.

Inverted Images

We do our best to detect the correct orientation, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Film manufacturers often mounted slides inconsistently—even within the same brand.

If you need to flip images, we provide a free link to XNView, which can do this easily.

Dust Removal

While we use high-end air systems and specialist software, no dust removal process can ever be 100% perfect without liquid cleaning—which we do not offer, as it can damage film.

Dust removal may reduce sharpness slightly.
If you do NOT want dust removal, please tell us before your order.

Artwork Scanning

We can scan artwork (paintings, drawings, etc.) in slide format.
Please note:

  • Pastel colours may be interpreted as “faded” and automatically enhanced

  • Artwork photographed in frames may cause cropping issues

If in doubt, send samples first.
